この絵は、インド東部とヒハール州に伝わる繊細で生き生きとした民俗絵画の一種、ミティラー画です。画家ランバロス・ジャーは、ガンジス川のほとりで生まれ育ち、水とその中に棲む生きものに魅せられるようになりました。彼の作品は、ミティラー画のモチーフをもちいて、みずからのヴィジョンを表現したものです。
南インドのチェンナイにあるTara Booksの工房で、手漉き紙にシルクスクリーンで手刷りされ、画家のサインが入った限定品になります。

Tara Booksとは？
インド・チェンナイにある独立系出版社。ハンドメイド本やビジュアルブックを中心に児童文学や教育、社会問題など幅広いジャンルの本を出版。ハンドメイド本の代表作『夜の木』が2008年ボローニャ国際絵本原画展でラガッツィ賞を受賞するなど、手がけてきた本は世界でも高い評価を受けている。
